Adding sugar to a drink will kick you out of fasting. When it comes to artificial sweeteners, studies show that having them on a regular basis may interfere with our metabolism and autophagy (cell cleaning). Plus, artificial sweeteners could be bad for our health –  impacting our gut bacteria and how we use insulin.

For this reason, we recommend avoiding sweetened drinks during the fasting window and keeping them to a minimum in general. Swap your diet soda for refreshing and hydrating soda water with a slice of lemon or lime instead.
